Prague Travel Diary

My first morning in Prague, I woke up at the crack of dawn to see the Charles Bridge. My favorite time of day to take travel photos is always before the city has woken up. It's a win, win, win. I beat the crowds, get an early start to my day, and get to experience the quiet stirring of the city coming to life.  There's nothing like roaming around empty streets that you know, in a few hours, will be teaming with people. It feels like I'm living a secret memory, the only witnesses being the chirping birds, cobblestone streets, and my roaming mind.

Our first morning in Copenhagen, we woke up early to roam around the picturesque district, Nyhavn. Well known for its unique canal lined with colorful store fronts, the less-traveled side streets are just as enchanting. Natalie - my travel buddy - and I meandered around small alleyways bursting with ivy and richly painted exteriors. My favorite in particular was hidden away on Lille Strandstræde.

"Chicken Pizza," the term our tour guide used to describe visitors' poor pronunciation of this historic site, was humbling to see. Designated as one of the Seven World Wonders, these Mayan ruins saw their heyday around 600-1200 A.D. The complexity of the architecture, and the stories we were told about the ancient Mayan civilization, were so amazing. It intrigues me that human hands created such beautiful art work, in comparison to the human minds that create the metal skyscrapers were see in our cities today.
