Romantic Sunrise Engagement Session in Pienza, Italy

The day before Ali and Dirk tied the knot in Tuscany, we decided to wake up at the crack of dawn for a little adventure. With sleepy eyes, we all piled into the car at 6:30 AM to catch the beautiful morning light. As we drove south toward the town of Pienza, we watched the sun slowly rise over the rolling fields, coloring the landscape with a golden glow. En route to our final destination, my second shooter (who happens to double as my best friend), Sydney Noelle, spotted an empty field just off of the highway. We pulled over and hopped out of the car, in awe of the way the tall grass sparkled in the sunlight. After taking in the beauty, and photographing Ali and Dirk dancing around, we continued on our way.

When we arrived in Pienza, we roamed down the ancient cobblestone streets which opened up unto a magnificent view of the sprawling countryside. As a woman of many words, there are few things that leave me speechless… this definitely did the job. No one in the town had woken up yet, so we made our way through, observing the UNESCO World Heritage cite. Everywhere we looked, we saw quiet alleyways and colorful doors. There is something so special about visiting a place in the early hours, before it comes to life. Everything is still, and your memory isn’t tainted by bustling crowds or the scorching afternoon sun. I’m so thankful Ali and Dirk were down for the count, despite the hours of sleep lost – my kind of people! Don’t worry, we all went home afterward and took lengthy naps to prepare for the rest of the wedding weekend.
